South Witham village - Local Plan consultation

Your Parish Council has looked at the local plan review published by Lincolnshire County Council in detail and has also been aware of various comments across elements of the plan which have raised some concerns within the village. We have collated comments and have added these to some of the Parish Council’s own considerations of the review of the plan which dates from 2021 and takes Lincolnshire through the next two decades of managing housing needs within the county across a wide range of demography and communities.

At this stage we don’t feel there is value in meeting publicly within the village about the plan as we don’t have enough information about future proposals to build on the land identified within the plan. This does not rule out a public meeting at some stage in the future when we may have more information or a concrete proposal which we can review in detail. The Parish Council will submit feedback on the portal to include social media comments, verbal feedback and potential issues raised by the Parish Council. These need to receive full scrutiny through the planning process in the future as any plans are developed or proposed.

Some brief feedback is summarised below.

  • Inadequate infrastructure to support 172 additional houses: schooling , GP surgeries, pressure on local roads and lack of pedestrian access.
  • Known traffic hotspots/ congestion combined with additional traffic on an already problematic A1.
  • Poor public transport currently and this been added to if a comprehensive review of future proposals is not part of the planning process.
  • The current issues with flooding and mains drainage could be impacted further if plans do not consider the village’s current problems.

We would strongly encourage residents to leave any comments on the local plan in the link to the portal below.

Everyone needs to be encouraged to have their say on the Planning Portal and also to engage directly with South Witham Parish Council by attending the 15 minutes public forum within the monthly meetings.
